By Valerie Milano

Beverly Hills, CA (The Hollywood Times) 7/18/14 – “Diversity, since I’ve been at this network and even in my past career, has always been a top priority,” Mark Pedowitz, president of the CW Network, said at the TCA press tour. The recurring theme of the executive sessions has been diversity, and Pedowitz added, “We’re an immigrant nation, and without that, you have nothing.” Pedowitz also pointed to Jane the Virgin as a show with Latino writers and a Latino cast. He also allowed that he stays involved with the show. “We believe, with Jane the Virgin, understanding the life experiences of both the people involved and everything else, that these three generation of women, that those relationships, very similar to Gilmore Girls, have to stay real to make the show really work.”

Reality show fans have spoken, they like hissin’, spittin’, fartin’ and overturned brunch tables, not good behavior.

Exec Also Talks HIMYD

By Valerie Milano

Beverly Hills, CA (The Hollywood Times) 7/17/14 – After ABC presented itself as a diverse network at TCA Summer Tour, Nina Tassler, chairwoman of CBS Entertainment, faced questions that perhaps her network cannot boast the same. “I think from sunup to sundown, across the entire schedule, there is diversity,” Tassler said. “The Talk is one of the most diverse shows in daytime,” she added, before pointing to the shows that have diverse leads such as Halle Berry, Lucy Liu and Maggie Q. “We always look to add more diverse characters to shows if we feel we haven’t delivered as best as we would like to,” Tassler explained. Giving another example of diversity, Tassler pointed to The McCarthys, which is based on Brian Gallivan’s life and features a lead character who is gay.
