Guitar master Ottmar Liebert comes to The Canyon Club Sunday February 12th.

By Valerie Milano

Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 2/12/17 – With 5 Grammys, and multi-platinum icing spread over nearly 40 albums, Ottmar Liebert has survived and thrived as a solo instrumental artist, one of the toughest gigs in music.  Liebert’s guitar based music is an ambitious mix of styles with a decidedly Flamenco sensibility. Steve Jones signs “Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol” at Barnes & Noble Books- The Grove Thursday, February 16 at 7 PM – 9 PM

The Lord of La Cienega aka King Steve Of BlaBlaBla doesn’t mince his words nor his music selections at 12 bells weekdays on KLOS 95.5 FM. His book Lonely Boy is a deep alley journey into the back streets of the mind of a solitude Sex Pistol guitar slinger in men’s suits, platform boots and a bit of rouge. This rogue is a cheeky Chelsea fan and main man in the punk rock n roll history of the music business. Definitely never mind the bollocks!

Steve Jones signs “Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol” at Barnes & Noble Books- The Grove Thursday, February 16 at 7 PM – 9 PM

Recognized as one of the key inventors of punk and celebrated as a living legend, guitarist and songwriter Steve Jones revisits his unruly, and often tragic, past in his autobiography, Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol.

Its release will coincide with the 40th anniversary of the band’s platinum debut album, Never Mind the Bollocks, which set the world on fire in 1977.In Lonely Boy, Jones recounts the nihilistic songs, amphetamine-fueled music, and influential anarchical fashion that turned a street urchin into a founding member of a genre-defining band.

From his days of petty crime and havoc-wreaking in England, to his first impression of Sid Vicious and famously blowing off the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony with Johnny Rotten, Lonely Boy offers a portrait of a punk pioneer—a demigod to a generation of frustrated youth who identified with the band’s political and social condemnations of life for the working class.

In January 2016 Steve Jones returned to the daytime airwaves of Southern California FM radio at ’12 bells’ from noon to 2pm. The first month was bittersweet with the deaths of music legends Lemmy, Bowie and Prince. The two hours show was not initially a daily weekday show but the demand for more Jonesy quickly evolved.

What is the charm of this ageless lovable grumpy at times punk ?? Could it be his on air random belches on the mic? His banter with a variety of guests from book authors to music legends?  Yes, yes, yes!  He is the extraordinary one of a kind rock n roll everyman. He grumbles about the traffic and rushing to the radio station. He forgets things on air yet he picks up quick on the cues of his producer Mr Shovel, his on air wingman and radio host of the local indie hour Sound Check at 8pm on Sunday.

Steve complains about his weight yet works on improving it. He got his teeth fixed. His fans tune in from across the southland from a variety of fans like Don in Costa Mesa who listens from his longtime college job, a caregiver in Rosemead making lunch for an aging half deaf Irish granny, Jeff in a metal company in Huntington Beach, as well as countless car radios of drivers, construction workers and school teachers on lunchbreaks.
An ample supply of glam 80s rock, early heavy metal, British rock and punk is played plus random gems by Thin Lizzy, Iggy Pop, The Tubes and new indie tunes by newcomers like The Regrettes.

In his deep sexy gruff but playful voice Steve recites his playlist to the listeners. It is like a two hour visit to your favourite record store where you overhear the counter talk of the clerks and customers while the staff picks are played. Before the listener knows it the two hours recess is done and the station change of djs. Weeknights at KLOS is a rebroadcast of the daily show. When Steve is on vacation or away for a book signing then Mr. Shovel takes the helm to air a Vintage Past show. During the show there are Caller contests plus listeners can text requests. Steve is a shameless and proud self promoter with his adventurous instagram performances and his other social media connections.

Join Steve Jones for this Special Event!
This is a wristbanded event.

A wristband will be issued to customers who purchase Lonely Boy from Barnes & Noble at The Grove beginning February 16th at 9am• Limit 1 wristband per book

New York City, NY (The Hollywood Times) 1/30/17 – From the pitch of dark that threatens to engulf, blight and suffocate this country’s spirit of long-and-hard-fought-for human rights, brightly lit beacons glowing with a promise of hope have emerged to take a vital public stand against a now disturbingly visceral wave of venom-riddled racism, bigotry and pig-ignorant discrimination in this the Age of Anxiety.

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organization, has announced that the groundbreaking film Moonlight directed by Barry Jenkins, critically acclaimed multi-award-winning actress Meryl Streep, and comedian Seth Meyers will, all three, be honored at the 2017 HRC Greater New York Gala on Saturday February 11th 2017 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City at this celebrated annual event raising crucial funds in the fight for full LGBTQ equality. Body-Positive Hip Hop Rising Superstar LIZZO readies to Take over The Dinah with her Feel-Good Revolution

Palm Springs, CA – Bold and brassy one minute and devastatingly sincere the next, Lizzo is an artist that defies easy definition.

A gifted rapper, a hair-raising gospel singer, a razor-sharp wordsmith, a classically trained flautist, she is also a passionate advocate for feminism and black empowerment.

Lizzo is a hard-touring road warrior who is equally capable of winning over audiences in London, Paris, New York, and her hometown of Minneapolis. And she is now taking her hip hop chops and body-positive message to the Dinah, the world’s largest lesbian event in the world.

The Houston-bred, Minneapolis-based rapper/vocalist released last fall her highly anticipated major-label debut, Coconut Oil, via Atlantic records . The EP was produced by pop super-producer Ricky Reed (Meghan Trainor, Jason Derulo) and features her 2016 breakout singles “Good As Hell” & “Phone”, and the just released track “Scuse Me.”

LIzzo, born Melissa Jefferson, recently kicked off the next leg of her Coconut Oil tour, which she is now taking to Palm Springs on Saturday April 1 for an exclusive one night only live performance at the Dinah.

On her way to conquer the world, she’s also been taking over TV screens as a host of MTV’s new live-music show Wonderland and the 2016 VMAs pre-show.

While she confidently stands as role model to many women for her feminist songs about body image and self-respect, she’s also found fans in legendary male musicians including the late Prince who enlisted her to perform on his PLECTRUMELECTRUM track “BOYTROUBLE”, Sleater Kiney and Outkast’s Andre 3000.

Widely acclaimed for her powerhouse vocal skills and equally potent lyrical message, Lizzo went made her stellar debut in 2013 with “LIZZOBANGERS,” earning international accolades from such media outlets as Time, which named Lizzo to its “14 Bands and Artists To Watch” list.

“BIG GRRRL SMALL WORLD”, a critical favorite among indie tastemakers, followed in 2015, affirming Lizzo as an iconic contemporary rapper and hip hop force of nature.

Celebrating who you are has long been Lizzo’s MO. Thanks to her self-care/self-love themed songs and emotionally charged lyrics, she’s become the new queen of body-positive self-acceptance anthems.

Lizzo’s music  – a melting pot of genres, mixing in pop, funk, R&B, Alternative and Hip-Hop – is a testament to this growing movement. And her messages continue and expand from the studio to public events and media interviews.
“The 2017 Dinah is a celebration of all women who inspire, break stereotypes, and remind us that we women continue to be a powerful force with which to be reckoned.  Our women’s movement will not allow the rewind button to be hit unless it’s to replay a Lizzo song.  Lizzo joins The Dinah 2017 line up as the perfect example of a powerful woman defining her career her way, on her terms.  We celebrate her and all women inspired by her,” says Mariah Hanson, founder and producer of the Dinah.
As Vibe Magazine proclaims: “this new wave of feminism and girl power, a new leader has stepped up: Lizzo”
Come join us at The Dinah and be part of her Feel-Good Revolution this April.

Pointer Sisters and La Bouche to headline Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards Gala 2017

Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards Gala 2017

“The Pointer Sisters and La Bouche headline entertainment”

PALM SPRINGS, CA (December 20, 2016) – Over 1,500 D.A.P. supporters will walk the red carpet at the Palm Springs Convention Center when they attend the 2017 Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards gala benefitting Desert AIDS Project on February 11.  The red carpet will be flanked by an art installation featuring the sculptures of Karen & Tony Barone and over 100 D.A.P. volunteers ready to usher the fashionable crowd into the reception or to one of the media fashion outposts near the carpet for interviews with local media and fashion celebrities.

As sculptors, Karen & Tony Barone have amassed a “big” reputation for life-size figurative and larger-than-life metal sculptures in sparkly & shiny paint colors.  The couple built a name making important the things sometimes considered ordinary.

For 23 years, the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards gala has raised millions of dollars to care for people living with HIV.  First organized by and named for famed interior designer Steve Chase – a former D.A.P. donor, volunteer, and board member – the gala is a highlight of the desert social season.  D.A.P. is proud to welcome a new major sponsor this year – Alta Verde Group and its founder Andrew Adler.

Details are emerging about the exclusive VIP pre-event presented by Patti and Jack Grundhofer with additional sponsorship from Eisenhower Medical Center. The location is the fabled Pond Estate, home to some of the valley’s most memorable fundraisers.  The property was built for Robert and Jo Pond in the late 1980s. Robert Pond co-founded the Palm Springs Air Museum and both he and his wife were active in philanthropy.  The estate features a white Spanish-style mansion and two guest houses creating a retreat compound with a total of 10 bedrooms and 19 bathrooms.

‘The Chase’, as many call the gala, has a reputation among trend setters as one of the few gala events at which attendees are encouraged to have fun and take risks with fashion.

Returning Co-Chairs Dr. Suzanne Quardt, MD, Patrick Jordan, and Dave Morgan promise the same sort of audience frenzy delivered last year by Chaka Khan, who caused the audience to jump out of their seats and join her at the front of the stage to dance while singing along with the iconic performer.  This year everyone is sure to be singing “I’m So Excited” when The Pointer Sisters headline the show!

Patrons of the gala know to pace themselves during the evening so they have energy left for its famous after-party, which will feature performances by the 90s dance duo LaBouche, DJ’s, and a series of tightly guarded surprises revealed as guests dance the night away.

Honorees of this year’s gala will include:

Humanitarian Barbara Keller who served as Steve Chase Co-Chair for seven years and continues to serve on the D.A.P. Board of Directors and Co-Chair of 100 Women annual giving program.

Eisenhower Medical Center’s President and Chief Executive Officer, G. Aubrey Serfling and its Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Martin J. Massiello.

Eisenhower Medical Center is a strategic partner in achieving D.A.P.’s Get Tested Coachella Valley’s goals of routinizing HIV testing and linking people diagnosed with HIV to care.

Desert AIDS Project CEO, David Brinkman, spoke recently about the February 11, 2017 gala.  “By attending the 23rd Annual Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards, you’re helping to make health happen in the Coachella Valley.  Your compassionate support empowers Desert AIDS Project to think globally and act locally.  By joining us at the Steve Chase, you join us in our commitment to 90-90-90, the bold strategy set forth by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) to end the AIDS epidemic by 2020.”

By 2020, 90% of all people living with HIV will know their HIV status.

People can carry the HIV virus for years and not know it.  The only way to know if you have HIV is to get tested.  Your support enables D.A.P.’s Get Tested Coachella Valley program to provide free and confidential HIV testing at hundreds of community events and dozens of test sites – from health fairs and food banks, to Walgreens and D.A.P.’s sexual health clinic, The DOCK.

By 2020, 90% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained antiretroviral therapy.

When someone with HIV is on the appropriate medications, they become 96% less infectious to others.  Thanks to attendance at the Steve Chase and other fundraising events, Desert AIDS Project ensures that newly-diagnosed HIV positive patients receive the medications they need to survive and thrive, and regular follow-ups to safeguard their well-being.  D.A.P.’s Patient Assistance Program secures critical HIV and other medications at reduced cost.

By 2020, 90% of all people receiving antiretroviral therapy will have viral suppression.

To suppress the virus to an undetectable level, an individual must start on medication as early as possible and stay on it for a lifetime. This can be challenging when facing other serious challenges.  That’s the driving force behind D.A.P. Total Care – the comprehensive combination of health and wellness services which are uniquely tailored to each individual – including medical, dental, mental health, social services, support groups, substance abuse counseling, and much more – all conveniently provided under one roof at D.A.P.’s Palm Springs location.

Brinkman is looking forward to thanking attendees at the 23rd Annual Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards, for sharing D.A.P.’s commitment to this bold strategy, and for becoming D.A.P.’s partner in reaching the end of the epidemic.  Funds raised at the gala will enable Desert AIDS Project’s dedicated team of medical and social service professionals to serve more than 3,600 individuals.  “This is a partnership. Together with the people who support Desert AIDS Project, we’re enhancing the health and wellness of our entire community.”

To buy tickets to the 23rd Annual Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards, go to or call 760-992-0445.

Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards Honors the Legacy of Elizabeth Taylor

“We are, a human race” – Elizabeth Taylor

PALM SPRINGS, CA (January 23, 2017) Elizabeth Taylor will be honored posthumously with the Partners for Life Award during the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards Gala on February 11. She joins already announced honorees, Humanitarian Barbara Keller and Eisenhower Medical Center’s President and Chief Executive Officer, G. Aubrey Serfling and its Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Martin J. Massiello. Elizabeth Taylor’s eldest granddaughter, Laela Wilding, will accept the award on behalf of Taylor’s family.

Elizabeth Taylor is remembered as an early leader and advocate for the care of people living with HIV and AIDS. Outraged by the inaction of the government to address the AIDS crisis, Elizabeth Taylor and Dr. Michael Gottlieb partnered with Dr. Mathilde Krim to create amfAR, the American Foundation for AIDS Research. The legendary actress and spokesperson for the organization helped amfAR raise hundreds of millions of dollars for AIDS research. In 1991, she started her own organization, The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF), to support the provision of direct care and services to people living with HIV and AIDS, often to the most marginalized populations. Today, ETAF also provides funding for HIV prevention education and advocacy programs throughout the world.

“Elizabeth Taylor witnessed the AIDS epidemic ravage the gay community in the early 80’s. The people suffering were her colleagues, her allies, and her friends,” said Joel Goldman, Managing Director of The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. “Instead of turning her back and remaining silent like so many, Elizabeth Taylor used her massive platform to fight fear and prejudice, and fight for treatment, and a cure. The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation is proud to continue her legacy and support Desert AIDS Project, an organization that marches on and continues to help those living with HIV.”

Watch ‘Still Fighting’, a video about Elizabeth Taylors legacy

On January 6, Desert AIDS Project announced that it had been awarded a grant for $15,000 from The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation in partnership with Macy’s. The grant will be used for clinical and social services programs for low-income people living with HIV/AIDS, helping them to achieve and maintain viral suppression and lead longer, healthier lives.

“We are thrilled to honor Elizabeth Taylor’s legacy of activism and leadership this year. Her compassion is still felt in the lives of D.A.P. clients who will receive care funded by ETAF” said Desert AIDS Project Chief Development Officer, Darrell Tucci.

Jan. 17, 2017

The trio will reunite Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017 on TNT and TBS’s live SAG Awards® telecast

Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton will present the SAG Life Achievement Award to actor, comedian, writer, producer and all-round entertainment maverick Lily Tomlin during the 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards®, Executive Producer Kathy Connell announced today. Tomlin’s accepting SAG-AFTRA’s highest accolade from her two long-time friends, a trio beloved as the co-conspirators in the 1980 feminist revenge comedy hit 9 to 5, will be a highlight of the annual SAG Awards® ceremony, which will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017 at 8 p.m. (ET), 5 p.m. (PT).

A Friendship Forged in Film

9 to 5 is now number 74 on American Film Institute’s list of “100 Funniest American Movies of All Time.” When the film was shot, Fonda and Tomlin were friends who had already received numerous honors for their acting achievements. It was Parton’s first feature film role, but she was a veteran of live and television performances as herself, an award-winning musician and writer. She also wrote, performed and received dozens of awards for the movie’s title song.

The three legendary artists, each of whom has a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, have remained close friends since that catalyst film. Fonda and Tomlin joined forces again as stars and executive producers of the current Netflix series Grace and Frankie. The success of the show led to both being honored this year with Actor® nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, along with Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominations for Tomlin. Grace and Frankie returns for its third season in May 2017

Jane Fonda

A two-time Best Actress Academy Award® winner (for Klute and Coming Home) and five-time nominee (for The Morning After, On Golden Pond, The China Syndrome, Julia and They Shoot Horses Don’t They), Fonda was the 2014 recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award. Fonda was first honored with a SAG Award nomination in 2014 as a member of the motion picture cast of Lee Daniels’ The Butler, in which she portrayed Nancy Reagan.

For three seasons, Fonda appeared as media mogul Leona Lansing in an Emmy-nominated performance in Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom, on HBO. More recently, she received a Golden Globe nomination for her stunning performance in Youth, written and directed by Paolo Sorrentino. Fonda is also known for revolutionizing the fitness industry with videos, books and audio recordings; her 1982 Jane Fonda’s Workout remains the top-grossing home video of all time.

Several of her awards honor the title song she wrote and recorded for the 9 to 5 soundtrack. Parton followed that hit film with starring roles in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982); Rhinestone (1984); Steel Magnolias (1989); and Straight Talk (1992). Parton also released Pure & Simple, her seventh album to debut at No. 1, and The Complete Trio Collection, capping the popular series she shares with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris.

Parton has the distinction of writing the only song to have topped the charts three times: “I Will Always Love You.” She has taken more than 20 songs to No. 1, has written two successful books plus a cookbook, and has also launched and runs the non-profit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides children in participating communities in 44 states with a book each month from birth until age five.
