CBS NEWS’ “FACE THE NATION” IS AMERICA’S #1 PUBLIC AFFAIRS PROGRAM ON OCT. 8

 CBS News’ FACE THE NATION was the #1 Sunday morning public affairs program on Oct. 8, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings. FACE THE NATION delivered 3.57 million viewers, nearly half a million more viewers than the second place finisher, and 0.7/04 in adults 25-54, the demographic most important to those who advertise in news. (Editor’s Note: FACE THE NATION’s second half-hour was broadcast contiguously across 59.8% of the CBS affiliates.)

 FACE THE NATION is the #1 Sunday morning public affairs program in viewers television year-to-date, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings. Television year-to-date, FACE THE NATION is averaging 3.70 million viewers (up +6%, from 3.50m) and 0.7/04 in adults 25-54.

The Oct. 8 broadcast opened with an update on Hurricane Nate from CBS News correspondent Mark Strassmann, followed by an interview with Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). John Dickerson then interviewed Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president and CEO of the National Rifle Association. Next, FACE THE NATION aired part of 60 MINUTES correspondent Bill Whitaker’s interview with the Las Vegas police officers who stormed gunman Stephen Paddock’s hotel room. Dickerson was then joined by former homeland security adviser to George W. Bush and CBS News national security analyst Fran Townsend and former FBI profiler Mary Ellen O’Toole, followed by Adam Winkler, constitutional law professor at UCLA and author of Gunfight. The political roundtable featured editor-in-chief of The Atlantic Jeffrey Goldberg; The New York Times’ op-ed columnist David Leonhardt; USA Today’s Susan Page; and Ramesh Ponnuru of National Review, Bloomberg View and the American Enterprise Institute.
