EXHIBITIONS ON VIEW

Making it Modern
Palm Springs Art Museum, Clayes Wing
Enjoy a reinstallation of the museum’s foundational collection of works by international modern artists in Europe and the Americas. The exhibition is organized around six key principles that demonstrate how modernists pioneered

a new aesthetic language that defined shifting perspectives in the twentieth century. By reconfiguring concepts such as line, energy, aggregates, biomorphism, spirituality, and presence, artists imbued their work with ideas that propelled modernism forward.

EXHIBITIONS ENDING SOON

John McLaughlin: The Tamarind Prints
Palm Springs Art Museum, The Jorgensen
Through September 25, 2017
John McLaughlin (1898-1976) is acknowledged as one of the most important artists of the post-war period. Working in Southern California, by 1948 he had pioneered a distinctive style of “Western geometric abstraction.”
Inspired by his lifelong study of Asian art, he instilled in his art a sense of stillness and the Japanese notion of the void. Between 1962 and 1963, McLaughlin made prints at Tamarind Lithography Workshop in Los Angeles, on view now are the entire group of seventeen prints that he produced at Tamarind.
