Manchester Arena will officially reopen on Saturday 9th of September with We Are Manchester – a special benefit concert to honour those impacted by May’s atrocities, and welcome back live entertainment fans to the Arena.

We Are Manchester will feature some of the city’s finest talent, alongside some of the biggest names in music. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Courteeners, Blossoms, Rick Astley and ‘Longfella’ poet Tony Walsh will perform to Manchester crowds along with a pre show DJ set from Clint Boon, with more acts to follow. Pixie Lott, Louisa Johnson and Manchester grime artist Bugzy Malone have also been added to the stellar line-up for the show.

All profits from the concert will raise money for the Manchester Memorial Fund, a charitable trust overseen by the Lord Mayor of Manchester which will go towards establishing a permanent memorial for the 22 May attack.

James Allen, General Manager of Manchester Arena said: “May’s events will never be forgotten, but they will not stop us – or Mancunian music fans – from coming together to enjoy live music. Manchester Arena has celebrated over 20 years hosting some of the greatest musical talent of all time, and the significant economic and cultural impact that this has on the city means that this legacy must continue.

“Public safety is always our priority and we are doing all we can to keep people safe at our venue. Doors will open at 5pm and we are asking all customers to arrive at the Arena in plenty of time and and to keep personal items to an absolute minimum.”

All customers will be screened upon arrival, any bags larger than 35cm x 40cm x 19cm will not be allowed inside the venue and no bag storage will be provided.

Councillor Sue Murphy, deputy leader of Manchester City Council, said: “Those who perpetrate terrorist attacks want to divide us and stifle our freedoms. No one will ever forget the terrible events of 22 May but Manchester has reacted with love, solidarity and a determination to continue doing the things which make this such a vibrant city.

“We welcome the re-opening of the Arena, a major venue which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors, as a powerful symbol of this defiant and resilient spirit. It is entirely fitting that the re-opening event should be a memorial fundraiser. Plans for the form and location of any permanent commemorations will be determined in liaison with the families of victims and others affected by the attack.”

Ali MacGraw: Send Animals At Roadside Zoo To Reputable Sanctuaries

Two mountain lions documented as being overweight and two bears documented with hair loss are just some of the animals suffering at the rundown Spring River Park & Zoo, which is operated by the city of Roswell, and Academy Award nominee Ali MacGraw has run out of patience.

In a letter sent this week to Jim Burress, superintendent of Roswell’s Parks & Recreation Department, the New Mexico resident and longtime PETA supporter urges city officials to act now and move the animals to reputable sanctuaries.

“As a New Mexico resident, I was saddened to learn from my friends at PETA that the city of Roswell is confining bears and mountain lions to cramped concrete pits at the Spring River Park & Zoo,” wrote Ali. “I urge you to release the bears Sierra and Ursula into reputable, naturalistic sanctuaries where they can live with rich environmental stimulation, and I hope you’ll consider doing the same for the mountain lions — rather than simply upgrading their enclosure at some point in the future, as you have claimed to be working on. These intelligent animals are far-ranging and need vast spaces in which to roam, climb, and engage in other species-specific behavior.

“In the last few years, several small zoos have chosen to release bears from concrete pits into such sanctuaries, and I’d be thrilled to be able to congratulate the city of Roswell on making the same compassionate decision. Won’t you please retire them to an appropriate facility like The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado, where they could live in a far more natural environment? It would mean the world to me and — more importantly — to these animals, who deserve better. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.”

Following the success and social impact of her initial limited edition capsule in May, the Fall activewear collection will mark the singer’s second collaboration with the brand, and offers a complete performance line of 12 exclusive outfits.

Demi Lovato’s newest collection for Fabletics features elevated designs that are unique to her personal style, and also highlight her evolution as a designer with the aim to make every woman feel iconic in her own right. The Fall collection is comprised of a combination of performance and lifestyle pieces with new design elements such as contouring waist straps, paint splatter camo and vibrant heather prints.

With the Fabletics mission to empower women by making a healthy, active lifestyle accessible to everyone regardless of size, shape, age or ability – the new Demi Lovato for Fabletics collection reinforces their shared commitment to inclusion, female empowerment, inclusivity and body positivity.

“I’m excited to share Demi’s second capsule collection at Fabletics with everyone! Demi’s strong sense of self and her passion for an active lifestyle embodies everything we at Fabletics want to share with our community. She did some great designs with really fun accents for this collection which I know our customer is going to love!” said co-founder Kate Hudson.

Of her new collection, Demi Lovato said, “I’m so excited to continue working with Fabletics and the design team to launch an even bigger collection for Fall. This collection is inspired by my personal style – on stage, at home and in the gym, so I had a lot of fun playing with bold colors, prints, and performance elements that I love. I felt more confident through the design process this time around, and think that the collection reflects that. I wanted to share that with my fans in hopes that they feel as confident and empowered when wearing the pieces.”

Demi’s new, sophisticated designs are both wearable and focused on workout performance like structured silhouettes, a bold color palette – also highlighted by magenta and bright blues – with feminine details. Featuring a full assortment of tops, sports bras, leggings, outerwear and layering pieces, the collection ranges from XXS-3X and short, regular and tall lengths. Offered as fully styled outfits, or as separates, each piece is designed with every shape, style and activity in mind.

As part of the Fabletics continued partnership with Girl Up, the brand is dedicated to creating a community that nurtures inspiring, confident and spirited girls who are able to realize their best selves. By integrating Demi’s authentic voice and passionate influence, Fabletics will support one of Girl Up’s priority initiatives, SchoolCycle. Girl Up’s SchoolCycle initiative works with UNFPA to give girls bikes – along with spare parts and maintenance training – so they can continue their education and travel quickly and safely to and from school, as well as give them independence and mobility to create a better future for themselves, their families and communities.

The Demi Lovato for Fabletics capsule collection will be sold across 8 countries and will be available on Fabletics.com as well as in the 22 Fabletics stores nationwide starting August 16.

Brazilian football player Neymar Jr. became the new ambassador of the charity Handicap International this week.

Through this partnership, Neymar is using his huge fame for a good cause: to support the most vulnerable people in the world, people with disabilities in poor countries, victims of conflicts and natural disasters.

The first action of Neymar Jr. as an ambassador of Handicap International was to send a message of support to people with disabilities across the world.

On Tuesday in Geneva, the football player went on the top of the Broken Chair monument.

Broken chair is the work of the Swiss artist Daniel Berset, erected twenty years ago by Handicap International in front of the United Nations headquarters in Geneva to call for a ban on antipersonnel landmines.

While at the top of the iconic sculpture in Geneva, Neymar Jr sent a message to all the nations in the world, to call for more inclusion of people with disabilities in society. Symbolically, this message took the shape of a football with the logo of Handicap International on it. The ball was kicked in the flags alley situated in front of the Palace of Nations. The event was followed by a press conference hosted by the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Neymar Jr. chose to engage with Handicap International and to promote all of the charity’s work toward people with disabilities in poor countries and victims of natural disasters and conflicts.

The star and Handicap International met on the topic of access to prosthesis for amputee children, which is a topic particularly close to Neymar Jr.‘s heart and one which he has already supported. He wanted to support actions on this topic on a global scale and got to know Handicap International’s work at the beginning of 2016. He expressed the wish to go in the field to see the charity’s projects.

In October 2016, Neymar Jr. showed his support to the organisation’s actions in Haiti on social media, following Hurricane Matthew.

Spotlight: Humane Society International’s Celebrity Supporters

Aug 18, 2017 06:00 am
Humane Society International and our partner organizations together constitute one of the world’s largest animal protection organizations-backed by 11 million people. HSI works to protect all animals-including animals in laboratories, farm animals, companion animals, and wildlife-and our record of achievement demonstrates our dedication and effectiveness. With the support of our advocates and donors, we have advocated for strong legislation to protect animals. For example, in 2009 we helped achieve a European Union ban on trade in seal products, a major step toward ending the annual commercial seal slaughter in Canada. We work with local animal organizations in countries all over the world to provide direct, hands-on care to animals in need and spread the culture of compassion. Our campaigns strike at the root of problems affecting animals by providing the tools and resources to prevent animal suffering both now and in the future.

Sir Paul McCartney – has actively supported HSI’s campaigns to end the seal slaughter in Canada. In 2006 he visited the Harper Seal nursery with HSI and Respect for Animals.

Ricky GervaisMelanie C and Leona Lewis are fronting HSI’s Cruelty-Free 2013 campaign to ban the sale of animal-tested cosmetics in the European Union.

Chrissie HyndeJoanna Lumley and Brian May (together with Ricky Gervais) became animated avatars for the Make Animal Testing History virtual march to campaign for better laboratory animal protection as part of the revision of EU Directive 86/609.

Ricky GervaisJoanna LumleyAmanda Holden, Emmerdale actress Rokhsaneh Ghawam-Shahidi and BBC AutumnWatch presenter Chris Packham – joined HSI in urging people to have an animal-friendly Holiday season by not buying cruel presents such as fur, puppy-farmed pets, animal-tested cosmetics, or celebrating with factory-farmed turney.
