-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
NBC: +104, CW: +50, Fox: +36, CBS: – 3, ABC: -32
NFL Football, the Dallas Cowboys at the Arizona Cardinals, put NBC well above the competition on this first Thursday in August. The competition averaged a 5.4 rating/10 share in the household overnights from 8:15-11 p.m. ET (including the pre-game).
Tops among the entertainment-themed entries was “Big Brother” on CBS (which I was in the studio audience for) with a 4.1/ 7 in the 9 p.m. hour. Comparably, that was eight percent above the 3.8/ 7 on the year-ago evening, which was wasted on lead-out drama “Zoo” (#2: 1.8/ 3).
ABC was in all originals, but the combination of “Boy Band” (#4: 1.7/ 3), “Battle of the Network Stars” (#3: 1.9/ 3) and “The Gong Show” (#3: 1.6/ 3) could not compete. On Fox, “Beat Shazam,” which is confirmed to return in season two, scored a 2.0/ 4 (#3) in the overnights into a 1.7/ 3 for the modest revival of “Love Connection “ (#4: 1.7/ 3 at 9 p.m.), hosted by Andy Cohen.
Also original was The CW’s “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” (#5: 1.1/ 2) and a 9 p.m. edition of “Whose Line is it Anyway?” (#5: 0.8/ 1).
