VANGUARD VOICE AWARD

Presented to Grammy and Academy Award-winning lyricist and composer, Stephen Schwartz. A longtime supporter of the LGBTQ community, Schwartz was inspired by Dan Savage’s It Gets Better Project to write the choral piece “Testimony” and helped produce “Tyler’s Suite.” Both pieces have been used in anti-bullying and suicide prevention campaigns nationwide. Schwartz’s other charitable work has included organizing the Uprising of Love concert to benefit and raise awareness of LGBTQ people in hostile countries as well as producing benefits for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Faustman Clinic. He has also appeared in benefits for such causes as the Sandy Hook families, marriage equality, the Gender and Family Project and more.

VISIONARY VOICE AWARD

Presented to Logo TV, the network that became the trailblazer for LGBTQ programming. Logo TV has dedicated itself to portraying LGBTQ characters in a positive light and creating content that resonates with the community at large. Logo TV features one-of-a-kind personalities, shows, and specials from the competitive queens on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” to its documentary film division, which is devoted to telling the stories and real life struggles of LGBTQ people. Logo TV’s line-up encompasses all things LGBTQ.

COMMUNITY LEADER VOICE AWARD

Presented to community activist Gwen Baba. Baba is on the board of directors of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest LGBTQ civil rights organization, and is a member of the David Bohnett Foundation Board of Advisors, a foundation that funds and advocates for organizations that provide equal rights for all LGBTQ people. From 1986 to 1997, Baba was a member of the board of directors of the LA LGBT Center, including a term as co-chair. She held a leadership position with the first capital campaign in the history of the LGBT movement, assisting with the purchase and renovation of the Center’s headquarters.
The Voice Awards honors those who advance our world, lend a voice to the oppressed, exhibit leadership & give hope to those living under the weight of silence.
