Instant Records has announced the long-anticipated release of Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas’ new album, TELEPHONE / TELEFONO. The remarkable follow-up to 2014’s acclaimed SECRET EVIL arrives everywhere early this summer.

TELEPHONE / TELEFONO is Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas’ first full-length bilingual recording, to be released as a double-LP or CDs in both English and Spanish language versions, each with distinct production, lyrics, vocals, and arrangements.

Consequence Of Sound announced the albums yesterday with the release of the dual language single “Run Too Far” and “Escapar” in which they call “gold-flecked grooves of soul pop, jittery and shining with the same accessible vibes despite the varied language.” These songs will be available on all DSPs this Friday March 10th.

Hernandez & The Deltas first revealed TELEPHONE / TELEFONO late last year with the surprise single, “Hot Damn,” and the track’s companion video – directed by Hernandez and Taylor Bonin (The Growlers). Check it out here.

Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas followed SECRET EVIL with two years of hard travel, including countless headline gigs, supports with such like-minded acts as Gogol Bordello, Social Distortion and St. Paul & The Broken Bones, and well-received sets at festivals like Lollapalooza, ACL Music Festival, Osheaga, and Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. Hernandez was intensely productive throughout the non-stop tour, somehow finding time to get married while also writing and readying the band’s next album. The Deltas reconvened in their native Michigan for sessions in early 2016, capturing all the fire, excitement, and band unity gained by their almost nightly performances.

As 2016 marched on, Hernandez, a second generation Cuban and Mexican-American, came to feel it her duty to further explore her own Hispanic heritage on The Deltas’ sophomore recording. She knew songs written and recorded in English required more than simply translation – a full rethink was needed to truly give them equivalent poetry and power in her second language. She pushed herself to use Spanish in ways she had never previously attempted, rewriting the songs to better suit the new lyrics and vocal style.

Jessica then hit Mexico City for a second round of recording, tracking all-new Spanish language vocals with Hernandez’s SECRET EVIL producer, Latin GRAMMY® Award-winner Milo Froideval. The result is a genuinely unprecedented work of remarkable duality and impossible-to-ignore relevance. Songs like “Hot To Trot” and the turbulent “Apologies” see The Deltas’ brand of Motor City magic taken to the max while their Spanish counterparts reveal new shapes and sonic flavors hitherto only suggested by the band’s previous efforts. Intensely personal and undeniably provocative, TELEPHONE / TELEFONO is a milestone achievement for the band who are upping the ante on their one-of-a-kind soundclash of Goth pop, Latin rock, psychedelic surf, punk cabaret, dirty dancehall, and bold balladry, a voracious approach made uniquely their own through Hernandez’s astonishing vocal power and The Deltas’ own boundless versatility.

Long hailed as an explosive and theatrical live outfit, Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas will celebrate TELEPHONE / TELEFONO with a non-stop North American tour schedule, highlighted by headline dates, radio concerts, festival appearances, and more. The dates begin with a home state performance at Bell’s Eccentric Café in Kalamazoo, MI, and will continue through the year. Additional dates will be announced soon – for regular updates, please check out jessicahernandez.net/tour.

TELEPHONE / TELEFONO was co-produced by Hernandez and Eric Hoegemeyer (Jacuzzi Boys, Hundred Waters) at studios in Royal Oak, MI, Brooklyn, NYC, and Topanga, CA. Hernandez’s vocals on TELEFONO were recorded at Topetitud Estudio in Mexico City by Latin GRAMMY® Award-winner – and SECRET EVIL producer – Camilo Froideval.

About Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas:

Founded in Detroit in 2009, Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas made their Instant Records debut with 2013’s acclaimed DEMONS. The EP earned national attention, with PopMatters hailing it as “an accomplished document that proves the band deserves all the hype they’ve been garnering.” “(Hernandez is) painting a very big picture,” declared The Huffington Post, “and her memorable voice is only one of the textured colors on a multidimensional palette.”

SECRET EVIL followed in 2014, revealing all the many other hues in Hernandez’s 120-count box of crayons. “Songs such as ‘Dead Brains,’ ‘No Place Left to Hide,’ and ‘Downtown Man’ would be stand-out lead singles on just about any pop album,” declared Paste,“and likely smash hits for the likes of Katy Perry or Adele, in whose company (Hernandez) would not be misplaced…a new legion of fans will soon be willing to follow this young singer wherever she would lead.”
