Benefiting Mizell Senior Center and Meals on Wheels at the Palm Springs Air Museum on Saturday, February 25
Dig out the white three-piece suit and your platform disco boots. Then, grab your favorite dancing partner and channel your inner “Tony Manero” for a very special 12th Annual “Stars Among Us” gala, presented by Eisenhower Health and HaroldMatzner.
Event chairs Cyma and Leo Cohen and Eric Rudolph and Bob Iles invite you to be a part of this musical experience of the season and to tear up the dance floor to the tunes of disco diva Yvonne Elliman and The Australia Bee Gees Show — A Tribute to the Bee Gees.
The evening’s host will be Donna Pescow, who played “Annette” as one of John Travolta’s dance partners in this mega-hit movie that took the world by storm in 1977. This year’s gala honorees will be Carol & Dr. Ron Fragen, Frederick Noble, and Elaine Frank. Entertainment Sponsors are Patti and Jack Grundhofer, while Desert Regional Medical Center returns as Producing Sponsor. Among others are Dinner Sponsors Grace Helen Spearman Foundation and Steve Tobin, Palm Springs Disposal, and Wintec. Sponsorships are still available.
This won’t be the Palm Springs Air Museum as you’ve ever seen it before. You’ll take a trip back to the neighborhood streets of 1977 Brooklyn before you step into the “2001 Odyssey,” the disco from the iconic movie, complete with the famous dance floor where the transformed “Vinnie Barbarino” from “Welcome Back, Kotter” dazzled us with his moves.
Your ticket purchase will be helping feed seniors in need. In addition to over 45,000 meals served in a social setting at nine locations throughout the Coachella Valley for only a suggested donation, the Mizell Meals on Wheels program serves more than 350 meals to homebound seniors from Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs to the Salton Sea. That adds up to more than 120,000 meals each year, thanks to the support of major sponsors including the Riverside County Office on Aging, Wells Fargo Foundation, Jewish Federation of Palm Springs and Desert Area, Desert Classic Charities, City of Indian Wells, The Champions Volunteer Foundation, Palm Springs Rotary Foundation, Stater Brothers Charities, Palm Springs Marathon Runners, Coachella Valley Wellness Foundation, and generous donors like you.
“Each of our Meals on Wheels drivers is trained to be a lifeline for the seniors that they serve because they may be the only people those seniors see regularly,” said Ginny Foat, executive director of Mizell Senior Center.
